as a technical apprentice my job is to, in each department, to learn as much as possible and gain experience in the roles and responsibilities in each department. we need be competent in the jobs we do so we have an understanding of what is involved.
I have achieved an level 2 PEO in engineering operations and currently working towards a HND in engineering systems. I have been on two training courses one concerning quality awareness and the other pressurised systems.
although I have been in the company for a short period of time, I already feel welcome and apart of the team in my department. Everyone strives to be the best and helps when we produce quality products. Everyone seems very laid back and open to conversation, any questions you may have someone is always willing to help.
As an apprentice the company heavily invests in the programme so we have every opportunity to succeed. I often get asked to help with tasks and it helps me have a understanding of what the company does.
the programme is well structured as each department, when going into a new placement has a clear objectives set out and tasks for you to do. We were given a very clear insight to the company when we had our induction. We have been given mentors and buddies to help us with are needs, we have monthly apprentice meetings to discuss the programme with our manager. we are given plenty time to study in our department so we have a great opportunity to do well in our HND.
if we need help or advice on college work all we need to do is say to our manager who will give us support and get us tutoring. the support given to us apprentices is unparalleled with any other company as everyone is willing to aid and support you through the apprenticeship programme.
if we need any help are HR team are always quick to reply and work alongside our manger to help our needs. any problems we have all we need to do is email the right person and they will help. overall my employer gives the apprentices lots of support throughout.
the salary meets are living costs, daily costs and social costs fantastically but as I stay far away, travelling costs are quite high and can sometimes make us late due to traffic/road works/accidents etc.
there are many events that you can take part in within the company that allows you to meet new people. we have a chosen charity of combat stress that we raise many for. the events we are involved in are incredible and as apprentices we have a big role in setting up and doing them.
Yes
as it is a welcoming company with great people and you have the chance to make a difference in the world.
when applying, sell yourself, don't hold back any talents. during the assessment centres be yourself, interact with other candidates and don't be shy. try stand out from the crowd as you will be the one the interviewers will remember.
