I enjoy my current role working in the Laser Department of Finmeccanica. Day to day tasks consist of anything assembly of the laser, alignment of the beam or final quality/performance test of the laser. I enjoy this as I am been given responsibility of the products.
I learnt how to you use Engineering Software such as Team Centre, LASER Control Software and Manufacture Console to aid my work. I have also taken part in ESD, FOD, Pressurised Systems, Environmental and Quality Assurance Training.
I enjoy working along side some of the UK's best and most talented Engineers to gain as much experience and knowledge as I can throughout all my departments that I may go into. I also enjoy being given the responsibility to work by myself on tasks.
I feel like a very valued member of staff to Finmeccanica as the apprenticeship scheme has a lot of time and effort put into it to ensure it runs as smoothly as possible - giving each apprentice all the support they need.
The 2 week induction was a worth while experience as it allowed us to settle into the company before going to our placement. The apprenticeship programme is well organised and I know where I will be going for the next 9 months of rotations. I believe the 12 week reviews with my apprentice manager keeps me up to date on everything that is going on.
We receive a good amount of support from our training provided so that all apprentices are aware of what is required in order to pass our SVQ Level 3. Our employer has put in place stepping stones in order so we meet these requirements.
Finmeccanica supports the apprentices a lot. Our apprentice manager has 12 week reviews where we can discuss streamlining and any problems we may have. I have a mentor/supervisor in all my placements to support me and I know that I can always ask questions.
I believe my company pays well for first year apprentices and I can live of the monthly wage if I budget my wages for the month. the only thing I would say I the food prices for lunch are high, so I tend not to be able to afford to eat at work all week.
There are many opportunities out of work such as charity events, meetings with customers or suppliers and more leisurely things like department nights out etc. Finmeccanica also offers a free Gym Membership which is great.
