I am a software engineer working on different projects around the UK. Daily tasks involve current project software development as well as testing and the usual documentation. I interact with a wide range of Capgemini employees as well as other work colleagues on the same project on a daily basis. I am also involved in internal Capgemini work which I work on during the evenings during the week.
Java, SQL, Python, Data warehousing, Big Data and analysis tools such as Hadoop..etc Training for Pentaho as well as other well know big data tools. I have learnt a tremendous amount in my short time at Capgemini and I continue to learn more and more every day.
I really enjoy my work. I feel like I am a valuable part of my team and I am treated equally like any other employee. Some people say how they feel like an apprentice on these programmes , I feel just like a normal employee. The culture is great and everyone is willing to give you help and advice if you have any questions.
I feel very valued. We are rewarded well with company benefits as well as opportunities to take part in exciting events or projects.
The Induction was very good and I thoroughly enjoyed my 3 months intensive training. There is plenty of support and most new apprentices are assigned mentors and managers to help support you when you first join.
Not as much support as I would like. However QA no longer run the apprenticeship qualification as it is now done by Aston University.
I receive plenty of support from my managers and colleagues at work who always try their best to help me with any problems or concerns I may have.
I feel the salary is great and supports all of my travel and living costs. It is worth bearing in mind I still live at home but renting accommodation and living away is possible on this salary. I have plenty of money left over for socialising outside of work. Capgemini and their clients have offices all round the UK so location should never be an issue.
There are always exciting events and opportunities outside of work. Email lists are commonly used to let us know about upcoming events and opportunities within the company.
Yes
It's a great alternative to University. You gain valuable experience as well as a free degree which puts you in good stead for the future and ahead of the game because of the 5 years experience after completing the degree compare to 0 years of experience after completing a traditional university degree!
Be yourself and good luck!
