my role as an apprentice is to work with the technicians of my team and learn about the type of maintenance they carry out day to day and learn about systems and the plant.
i have learnt hands on skills about the electrical industry and systems that will help me attain a job for the future.
i enjoy my apprenticeship, spending two years away at HMS Sultan and meeting new people and making new friends was something i shall cherish
I do feel valued by EDG Energy, however it feels i am being prevented from progressing within the company, whereas my colleagues at other stations are not
our programme for the first two years was well structured, however some work could be more relevant to the jobs we will complete on site. for example, i am the type of learner who learns with hands on experience as opposed to looking at a power point and taking notes. our second two years are structured, however we have sections in our qualification manual we are expected to sign off but the things do not even exist on our station (microprocessors, ladder logic)
i receive a lot of support from my colleagues i work with on a daily basis and my NVQ assessor goes above and beyond to ensure i do not struggle and succeed.
i don't really have contact with my apprentice co-ordinator other than my 6 weekly reviews
it does meet my costs, as of being back home i now pay rent to my mother, car loan, credit card, petrol and other expenses. i sometimes struggle near the end of the month.
i am partaking in the EDF Energy golf tournament in the summer this year. they also have other sporting events and my team organise days out etc.
