I am an apprentice Control and Instrumentation maintenance technician working on control systems in Pressure, level, flow and temperature. I also carry out calibration of chemical montitoring systems and auto control loops.
Both - I had a good background knowledge of engineering and spent free time in the garage fixing things. I did highers at school so also had knowledge in physics and technical studies. I now have BTEC and NVQ qualifications as well as an HNC in Measurement and Control Engineering.
I enjoy every aspect of the programme but for me the best part was retruning to Torness after two years extensive training at HMS Sultan and getting hands on with plant as well as learning and leading jobs.
I feel quite valued by EDF Energy, I feel that you get out as much as you put in with the company and they the company strives to improve you as a person.
The apprenticeship is very well organised as it has now been running in the current format for a number of years.
We are given a lot of support - 24/7 when we are at HMS Sultan and back at Torness, everyone is more than happy to help and share their knowledge.

Our salary is good, above the cost of living and is a comfortable wage for people embarking on a career.
there are many opportunities to futher training and during our time at HMS Sultan, we are offered the opportunity to travel Europe as well as take part in a vast array of other activities such as skydiving and SCUBA diving.
