Started off in the MINIcademy in the first year and now I'm in my final year I am out within the business on shifts shadowing the maintenance technicians
Learnt many machining techniques such as turning and milling, also welding and other general maintenance techniques.
Overall the programme is ok, as you get further into the programme you realise why you learnt different skills in the earlier years
I feel valued to the point that I get a good amount of training and rewards from the job
We were the first year of apprentices to be trained at the plant therefore i would expect it to be more structured with the younger apprentices now.
Now I have completed the majority of training for the apprenticeship now I rely on hands on experience within the job now
There is always someone there to talk to or ask if I need any help or advice with something that I am doing
I feel the salary for the apprenticeship is very good and the other perks available through the company are very appealing
During the middle years of the apprenticeship there are oppurtunities to advertise the group and also oppurtunities to visit the other plants around the uk
Yes
As the oppurtunities are great and the salary is very competitive however speaking to the maintenance technicians working around the plant today feel the actual level of training have fallen since they were apprentices years ago
Make sure they stay focused and put the time and effort in and they will be rewarded in the end, as they aren't at school anymore and need to push themselves
