My role as an apprentice at the moment is to gain an understanding of the basic skills, in hand fitting, machining, electrical, electronics, PLC's and mechacnics.
I have learnt a vast amount of skills in electrical both domestic and inducstrial, and how to wire up circuits correctly. When maching i have learnt a lot from how to set up machines to cutting speeds and smaller details.
I am enjoying my firsr year, however as it is just in the training school over the first year, it does become repettitive and ocassionaly can be boring, i am very much looking foward to going out on placements around the plant.
I feel very valued and if there is ever a problem, I know that I can speak to my manager and that it will get sorted, immedieatly. there is allways someone to speak to if there is an inssue and people do try to help.
The program is well organinsed and managed in most aspects. However the college I feel havent delt with the loss of a tutor due to illness well at all. The tutor was the only one that knew what was needed for the course and noone else knew any information about it. we went throught a number of tutors who simply were not up to the job and couldnt teach the subject.
The training provider does provided support when it is needed, however I feel that this is pushed for by BMW Managenent, rather than the college trying to provide more help off their own back. I feel this way due to having complained about a lack of teaching being done by a tutor and nothing being done about this until what the teacher was attempting to teach became dangerous.
My employer provides me with a good level of support, they have brought other year groups in to help teach subjects when teachers were unavailable. If there is ever a probelm with training staff they push for it to be sorted.
As an 18 year old who lives at home with his pearents i have veyr little to pay out for, the only thing I have to pay for is my car and a minimal amoount of house rent so the salary that I recieve I belive to be very good and is enabiling me to save money towards a deposit for a house.
Yes the company provides oppertunities away from the work place for example a fourd day bonding trip when I started work in 2015. There is also a hiking chalenge taking place in the summer of this year. Aswell as a family day wheer friends and family can look around BMW to celebrate the 100 year aniversary.
Yes
I have enjoyed my time so far at BMW and I feel that working for such a good company and having the oppertunity to get a degree whilst working will make me very enpoyable at the end of the apprenticship and should open up a lot of good oppertunities to me.
Really try your hardest at all times and allways be on your best behaviour because ther is often people watching you and you may not realise it but one day they could be your manager and have a say in a new job you wish to have so you need to creat a goo impretion at all times and try your hardest to impress people.
