I am an apprentice at rolls royce motor cars. My apprenticeship was in the paint shop and would rotate within different areas of the paintshop. I am now come to the end of my final year and have started a new and permenent job role of robot operating and programming.
Yes. I have learnt how to paint spray and refinish vehicles, a skill i never had before starting at rolls royce. I learnt theses skills in the workplace and at college.
I enjoy it very much and have valued every second of it and would recommend it to anyone as it is a good way of earning good money whilst learning on the job.
I feel valued as i have been offered a job after my apprenticeship. if i was not offered a job then i would feel a little less valued, but i do feel part of the team.
I thought the program was well organised but could of been a little bit better as sometimes it was un-clear what department within the paintshop i should of been in during my apprenticeship. However the college work was well organised.
My training provider was Thatcham training academy. This was a great place to go as they had the stae of the art facillities and good tutors to help us develop our skills. if ever we needed some advice we could always turn to our tutor.
At the beginning it didnt feel like there was much support as there was achange over of our apprentiice manager. However there now seems to be a bit more support for us which is good and the HR team are helpful.
As an apprentice living at home the wage is a good salary and i wouldnt expect much more as an apprentice. It is an easy ten minute drive from home to work so dont spend much on travel each month which is helpful.
There are a few apprentice evnts throughout the year that i get asked to attend. There is also a family day in trhe summer which the apprentices help organise which is good. You also get to take part in projects like building go carts and raising money for the house charity.
Yes
As it is a good place to learn a new skill and the apprentice salary is really good and the work is interesting most of the time. Furthermore the college i went to was a great place to go to.
Apply for something that interests you as you will be doing it for the next three years. Also make sure you can afford to live off a apprentice wage is it is a lot lower then everyone elses wage at the plant.
