As an enginerring technicam apprentice, my daily task this year is to understand the functions and job responsibilities of the department I am based in. Nornamally, the placements changes every three months which means I will move into the new dapartmentand understand new roles and contribute to the process to cut down thew waste such as scrap, downtime, changeover time and improving the cycle times.
On this programme, I have learn't variety of skills such as good communication, presentation skills and have gained hand on experience on fault-management and TAKT time improvement.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my apprenticeship. Each department welcomed me and supported me throughout my learning phase. If ever in doubt, they have either given me and answer or have directed to the person (may be in daprtment) who is capable of answering them.
Rather than been treated as an apprentice, I have been treated as a team memebr and have been included in the daily activities and been given tasks to complete and have been supported in case of any doubt or problem.
The apprenticeship is well structured. Throughout each placement, I have been gieven the objectives and the plans to achieve the tasks. IThe deadlines are quite resonable and fair. A yearly plan is already in place so that I know which department I'll be moving to next
The traini8ng provider has been a hit and miss. This is duye to the problem with the staffing as currently thers is a shortage of the staff for engineering tutor in the region which is out of their control.
I receive a great support from the training provider. The training advisor is very bhelpful and easily accessible. She acts as a guide and previously helped me in achieving the external training that was required.
The salary package is great. As an apprentice, we are also authorused to take part in company car scheme after 6 months of starting the job.
Yes, with the training I am receiving, there are many opportunities within the site and outside as well (at other BMW sites). The company supports the charities as well and encourage the employees to assist these such as fund-raising, charity runs etc. They also have a wellness program by which the employee can seek advice on the health and well being. There is also a medical centre at site as well.
Yes
Yes I would definitely recommend to a friend beacuse I was welcomed whole heartedly in the company and had been given the support throughout the apprenticeship and they have even arranged external support for the colleagues who were struggling in the academic side.
Just be yourself. Be confident in what you are doing and never feel shy to ask for the support if in doubt. During the interview stage, they will put some tricky situation to see how you react to them, but don't loose hope. This is done to see how you react to the situation. There are no correct answering in those case. Just have faith in yourself and go for it and answer what you would have done in those situations.
