I am a engineering apprentice, I work with an experience engineer and follow and assist them on day to day tasks. This can be things such as repair work or inspection/testing.
Yes, at college I have learned many new skills which I can apply in the workplace. I also learn all the necessary skills I need in the workplace from courses and from the experienced engineers I work with.
I extremely enjoy my program. I enjoy working with my hands and learning skills on the job.
I feel highly valued. I am asked to help with tasks and, although I have very little experience, I feel my views are listened to and my skills are valued.
My programme is very well structured with set rotations in different departments, all organised by my supervisors, who are always ready to help with any issues we have.
Our training provider gives us all the training we need for our jobs, and also allows us to sit in with additional training to gain experience working with different machines/equipment.
I receive lots of support from my employer and from my manager in the apprenticeship department.
The salary is competitive and the benefits package is extensive.
There are opportunities to become a STEM ambassador and work with young people at events such as open evenings and careers fairs.
Yes
The work is different every day and interesting. Also the salary is very good for an apprentice.
If you make the interview stage, make sure your interviewer knows you are passionate about engineering and about working for GSK
