I am working as an auditor taking on responsibilities such as leading medium-sized audits. This involves significant communication with the client and leading other colleagues less experienced than myself in order to complete audits.
I have learnt auditing skills through may internal training as an auditor. This has also taught me good communication skills and made me more professional. Externally, I have attended college and completed my Level 3 and Level 4 AAT qualifications.
I really enjoy working for Grant Thornton and within the audit team. I think they offer great opportunities and really push you to achieve you best. I have been amazed how quickly I have been trusted and given big responsibilities such as large audits to lead.
I feel very valued, my manager regularly communicate their appreciation for my work and I have been recognised a number of time for internal recognition points which can be converted into monetary rewards.
The programme is well organised and has been a fairly set structure for a number of years. Parts of the programme appear outdated but seem difficult to change due to the regular number of people starting the school leaver scheme making it difficult to make changes without causing frustration for others who are further into the school leaver scheme.
I train with Kaplan who provide sufficient support. I have not really needed too much support.
I have not really needed too much support from my employer but they are always available and willing to support me.
As an apprenticeship scheme the salary package is very good, I can comfortable meet all of my costs and am reimbursed any work related expenses.
There are multiple opportunities outside of work. There is a fairly good social atmosphere amongst the department which is encouraged. I have not been to many office related social events.
Yes
It is a good place to work with good people. As an employee you are well looked after and the culture is friendly yet professional which allows you to feel comfortable but also built strong business skills.
I would advise individuals to spend time studying what GT do before any interviews and applications since many people send blanket applications which will not be successful at GT. I would also recommend people not to underestimate the phone interview, this is quite a difficult interview where most applicants are ill-prepared and are therefore not successful.
