Currently working as an Apprentice Information Security Specialist, daily tasks include live monitoring of Intrusion Prevention Systems protecting our clients from malicious attack.
I have learnt a great deal during my apprenticeship, going from basic IT skills to being taught in a 3 month intensive IT course along with cyber security skills that I use every day in my job. We will finish with an SCQF Level 8 Diploma for Information Security Professionals.
I really enjoy working with Atos, we have a great time at my base and it has opened my eyes to the cyber security industry and how exciting and fast-paced it is. It has met my expectations well as I have a vast amount of knowledge in my profession compared to before I began this job.
As an apprentice with Atos, we are shown the same appreciation and respect as fully trained staff made to feel a part of the team. I have been trusted to work independently on a fully operational account which gives me great confidence and on the job experience.
As we were the first year of Information Security apprentices in our office, the organisation of the program was limited and there was a few issues in regards to working well with our provider, although this has been straightened out.
We receive adequate support from our provider, responding to emails when we require assistance and they visit us one every few weeks to go over the coursework we have completed.
My employer supports me with anything I need from them be it professional or personal help. I really feel like a part of the team and that we get recognised for achievements.
Our current salary is quite good in relation to the average apprenticeship wage, but in regards to the current industry trend it is low, which will hopefully be addressed upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
We try and organise regular staff night outs and social events to maintain a positive atmosphere in the office although this can be tough with limited salary and staff living in a large geographical area. The surrounding location is great with two big cities within driving distance and fantastic scenery and beaches.

I feel I have benefited greatly from working for Atos, both personally and professionally. Atos invest in the individuals, making sure you have opportunities and can achieve the best of your ability.
Be confident and honest, you don't have to be pretend to be a geek to apply...that's what the training is for!
