My role involves managing projects through programmes, plans, communications, processes, workflows etc. I help to ensure projects are running to agreed timescales and costs whilst forward looking to plan for any risk or surprises.
I have learnt and developed many skills such as presenting, communication, scheduling, managing. Project management has exposed me to a variety of workstreams and therefore I have had to use and develop a variety of skills and knowledges to match.
My programme is interesting and directly applicable to the work I do on projects which means that I am putting new knowledge and skills straight into use which is great.
I feel hugely valued by Arup, I have been given the freedom to push my career in the direction I want to and to work on the projects I want to. I have also setup my own groups and networks which is great.
My programme is very well structured, I am well aware of what deadlines I need to meet, I regularly attend reviews with my line managers and mentors, I get a day a week to complete the apprenticeship coursework which all works very well.
My training provider are always on hand to help via email / telephone, we catch up every 6 weeks to review my progress, I have a large pool of resources to use via the Virtual Learning Environment which all makes life easier for me.
I couldn't ask for any more support from my employer. My line managers and mentors always take time to review progress with me. I know that I can go to them with any issues or questions and I think Arup are great at providing support.
My salary has increased fairly well since starting at Arup, this is in line with the increase in my experience and knowledge. I do however feel that you should be able to move through the ranks quicker if you are meeting the necessary requirements.
Arup offer many clubs and groups such as football and reading club. If a group doesn't exist for something that you enjoy then you can most of the time go and set something up which is great and shows the confidence Arup place in their staff.
Yes
It has a relaxed, trustworthy culture that empowers employees to be and achieve the best they can. The projects they work on are interesting and the people are all very friendly and knowledgable, as well as always helping on another to progress and improve.
I would advise that applicants be themselves, research the business and it's values to give them an advantage in the interview process, be as confident and relaxed as they can and really try to connect with interviewers through emotional intelligence.
