My role title is IT Specialist and involves Application Management. On a day to day basis this could involve deploying code to web servers, troubleshooting or carrying out general housekeeping in the form of copying/deleting of logs. I have to liaise with internal and external agencies to co-ordinate our tasks.
In my current role I have had lots opportunity to acquire new skills. For example I have been on many external courses that I was able to choose and tailor towards my actual career goal.
I have really enjoyed my time within IBM. The team I work with is fantastic and really supportive and the management team are very supportive of my goals.
I feel valued by IBM because whenever I complete tasks there is appreciation from my managers. There have been numerous times when I have received internal recognition and also received thanks from clients.
There is a clear path to achieving the Apprenticeship with many avenues of support available to myself. From Induction to my current time of 1 year in expectations have been clearly laid out and the infrastructure available to me in order to meet those expectations.
Highbury college are my training provider and they leave the support to IBM to provide. Highbury are in charge of the Mapping document I need to complete in order to verify and provide proof that I have acquired the skills needed.
IBM provide a wealth of support. I couldn't ask for anything else and they are committed to my success and passing of my apprenticeship. Any opportunity that I want to go for I am supported in pursuing.
As an older Apprentice (33) I have a large family (6 kids) so the starting salary IBM offers is competitive to many normal positions. Especially for around my area of the country.
Yes, there are plenty of opportunities to network provided by IBM - various conferences, training courses etc that you can go on. Even to other countries!
Yes
You feel valued as an employee and that they will support you through your training, with your future in mind and catering it to whatever your career goals are.
Research not just the company's history but the core values of IBM. Once you know these then try and incorporate them into how you present yourself at the interview or assessment centre.
