I work in tax and started off completing tax returns for expatriates (people who move in and out of the UK) for our client. I have moved on to a more client facing role as I have developed and get exposed to lots of large projects.
I go to college and have some ATT exams to take, I am also completing a diploma alongside my work. It is fully supported by the firm and you learn most of the fundamental aspects on the job.
My team is very small so I the relationships are great and I get exposed to a lot of exciting projects. I enjoy going to college but as I have been out of school for 2 years I struggle a little with the balance between work and revision.
There are monthly recognition awards in which I got one in November which I really appreciate. I also feel that my involvement in large projects really has an effect on how I perform as I am being recognised for the work I do.
Well structured at the start with the week induction programme, I find college sessions very helpful but I think there could be more of them. Support from my team is great and they enable me to take any time I need to revise.
Constant support at a phonecall or email away, the diploma assessor comes in every 12 weeks to see how we are getting on and I find the personal contact great.
My people manager is really supportive for any queries or problems I might have. They are always avaliable and are understanding for anything that arises.
Salary is good and is an appropriate amount for somebody starting their career, I live further away from the office than I would like to but I do not see it as a problem. The office is easily accessible from three main cities.
Lots of events going on such as sports clubs, evening events, firm events that get promoted well. I have got involved in the planning of some of them so it's great.
Yes
A great way to start a career even if you have no idea of what you will be doing. The support is great and the firm is very family like.
Be yourself! Don't lie about yourself or make up competancies in the assessment days or interviews as people can bring it up later down the line! Practise the tests online and be prepared!
