I am an Anti money laundering analyst. My job involves receiving and investigating alerts of possible money laundering. I currently work on the OB pair team (originator/beneficiary). This team investigates external entities to establish commercial rationale between the money they are transferring to one another. I am responsible for making a decision as to whether there is a chance of money laundering.
the biggest skill I have learnt is time management, I have to manage meeting a target and any meetings I have. I have needed to complete 20 hours of new hire training. my knowledge is always improving in what seems like a forever changing role. I have began to improve my public speaking through networking with senior management and team members
I love my job and doing my apprenticeship. the knowledge I have picked up from exams has not only enhanced my general understanding of the industry but has also help me be more effective in my job. I apply my exam knowledge in the job on a daily basis. the culture at JP Morgan is excellent, I am fully supported and surrounded by a culture full of accepting and approachable individuals. JP Morgan has exceeded my expectations and continues to do so every day. I couldn't be more help where I am right now.
Every member of my team is valued, that fact im an apprentice doesn't mean im treated any differently. the expectations are the same as every other team member, if anything im more supported because im an apprentice. managers respect the fact I need to study for exams and support me. I am engaged in projects with Singapore where im able to bring value not only to EMEA but also APAC whilst i undertake a training re- vamp.
the structure of the program is very good, it is hard work. depending on how much your business as usual demands will depend on how easy it is to find time to revise. The online lectures aren't brilliant but the support and network we have makes up for any exam knowledge gaps we may develop.
BPP are always an email or call away and are more than happy to arrange face to face meetings if we need them. the online lectures make it possible to do them anywhere and BPP generally want us to do well. i enjoy the apprenticeship and never feel like i don't have anyone to turn to for support.
my employer also supports the fact im doing apprenticeship and is always finding new ways for me to develop soft skills and improve my networking.
the apprenticeship does pay well, yes ill admit its frustrating when i do the same job as someone and they get double my pay. At the end of the day that just gives me something to work for, the hope ill one day be on that salary. i can afford, rent, food, fuel and the odd social activity. no extravagant shopping sprees sadly though.
There are lots of opportunities, JP Morgan has various sports teams and committees, there is something for everyone. living in Bournemouth also means I have access to all social activities I may want to get involved in.
Yes
honestly, feel privileged to work for such a prestige company. the staff are valued, fairly paid and the company holds a generally respectable name.
its hard work, don't think its easy but be yourself. you don't have to be the smartest person in the room you just have to have the right personality and open minded approach.
