General CAD technician work supporting engineers with occasional design responsibilities working on a number of different large scale projects.
Learnt a lot about the industry in general, I studied engineering at college however have learnt a lot more while working along side college work. The people you work with help a lot generally if you're stuck and their not afraid to give you something to do that would be new to you so you can learn about all aspects.
I enjoy this programme, work is different and refreshing and college gives a nice break to the week, get on well with people in the office and enjoy coming in every day.
I feel very valued by Mott MacDonald, although I am the lowest ranked in the office you are not treated like this you're treated with the same respect they have for everyone, large investments into training and social events and work wise they will tell you when you're doing well plus a good interest and link with your college is good
College wise there has been a few bumps due to the lack of appropriate staff and vacancies however the staff there do all they can to make sure you succeed and will give great praise if you're doing well as well as have a work with you and sometimes even work if you're falling behind which is good
College once a week however you can never complete assignments in the time given so you must plan your work at home, tutors will always be open to questions and will try to help where they can and even in emergencies you can always ring or email and they will always try to help .
Managers, buddies and general colleagues will always be able to help with your work both at work and at college, if I'm ever out of options to obtain knowledge or research I'll ask around and if they are unable to help they will point you in the right direction
fairly well, as an apprentice I still live with my family so living costs aren't too high however above commuting costs such as train and petrol (working in Birmingham city centre) that takes away a noticeable chunk on top of food costs and other items you're left with a reasonable amount of spend how you wish
Yes there are always sports and social events as well as training opportunities all paid for by the company
Yes
Great company good work and take care of their employees
Research a lo on the company and the industry and how it all works before you apply as this should presented in your project should do well
