I'am a civil engineering apprentice, whose primary role is to work on project work in an engineering environment in order to gain relevant experience. I rotate around several different departments during the course of the apprenticeship in order to maximise this experience building.
I have become proficient at using CAD software such as AutoCAD and Microstation. I have also been introduced to several online resources which are useful in engineering. I have completed online training sessions in safety which has allowed me to undertake a recent site visit and gain further experience.
The programme is very enjoyable on a day-to-day basis and it also allows me to become acquainted with everyone in the office through the rotation system. The Sports and Social Club offers ample opportunity to socialise with fellow employees.
I have felt like a valued member of the team in each of the departments I have worked in so far. As well as gaining experience I also contribute to project work which my peers seem to find valuable.
I have a training officer is effective at making sure my progress stays on track and the structure of the rotation programme is very professional.
My training provider has provided me with support whenever needed ever since my induction. My training officer in particular, is always there to offer any support if and when it is needed.
My employer also offers support whenever needed. I have had performance development reviews with my line managers to enhance my progress and to allow me to report back any issues.
As I have not yet left home, my salary is more than enough to meet my needs. My only significant expense are my travel costs to and from work.
The Sports and Social Club has a huge presence within Mott MacDonald, organising company-wide activities which all employees are welcome to partake in.
