At the moment I'm currently training and studying within National Grid to become a Mechanical Apprentice in the Gas Transmission sector of the company. My role at the minute is to gain knowledge and experience which will stand me in good stead for my future in the company.
Throughout my time with National Grid I have had the opportunity to expand my knowledge of the mechanical sector and gained experience working on site. The training courses are appropriate in helping me to gain these needed skills. Also, in the beginning weeks in the course we did a Outward Bound Course which helped gain confidence and helped everyone get to know each-other.
The programme is good, it helps with self development and has allowed me to gain new skills along with getting to know new people.
At National Grid I do feel valued. National Grid are a company who welcome everyone and everyone has equal opportunity - you count as a person and not just a number.
The programme at times has been unorganized and there is often delay in getting new timetables which has cause confusion within the group at times.
The training providers are competent for the job and are always willing to help with any questions you may have. They are always well organised and always have training planned for the week.
The employer always supports me and provides open opportunities for development in my apprenticeship, and so this also provides confidence there will be room for progression and development within the company in the future. Everyone is made welcome within National Grid.
The salary is very strong in terms of an apprentice salary, and also the benefits packages are also an advantage to working for National Grid.
There are always opportunities within in National Grid to continue work outside of work time - such as attending company events on weekends and attending career fairs.
Yes
It is a stable company who offer opportunities to develop within the future and in the present time. They welcome everyone and everyone is equal.
To research as much about the company as possible because the more you know about the company the easier the interview stage will be as if you are showing knowledge of the company then this shows that you are interested in the company. Prior to applying I would recommend getting as much industry experience as possible because this will stand you in good stead for the future.
