I am currently operating in an Audit Trainee role. This means that I am currently learing the different ways of Audit and am continuing to develop. I interact regularly with clients, and am also learning something new every day. I am rarely in the office, with my time spent at client sites. This means that I interact a lot with both internal and external people. Projects range from 1-4 weeks, although there are exceptions to this. My daily tasks vary on the job that I am completing, as well as the size of the audit team. At present, no two days are the same.
I have learnt a wide bredth of new skills whilst working in my role. Not only am I currently studying to complete the CFAB and the ACA qualification, but I am also learning an immense amount of industry specific knowledge. I am learning the ways of working in a professional industry. However, on top of this, as I operate within Consumer Markets I am specialising in a specific industry which will aide my future career.
The programme of which I am a part allows myself to work in a team. This is something that I enjoy since you are always working with different collegues. The firm at which I currently work has a real team and friendly culture and therefore this is something that I also enjoy.
Most of the time within the Firm that I am working, I feel apreciated and valued. This is through many internal recognition projects. As well as this, good work is commended whilst appreciation is always voiced.
The structure of the system is very good. Training is well organised, as well as the allocation of study time. There is always enough forewarning for training whilst plenty of time is provided for study days.
There is much support provided from the training provider that my firm uses. Support is readily available whilst they are always happy to help.
There is a lot of support provided by my employer. This includes a 'Buddy' when you first join, as well as allocation of an counciling manager. There is also support from the student support team. Despite all of this support, it is encouraged to ask anybody within the firm if you require help and so there is a very good support structure.
My salary, at present, does cover all relevant costs. However, it does not leave much money to complete social activities. It is understood that the salary is competitive for the role and therefore I do not see this as being an huge issue.
There are many opportunities for socialising outside of work. This is because BDO is a very social company. There are many opportunities to socialise outside of work through nights out, sports clubs, sector socials and other similar activities.
Yes
It is a very respectable and helpful organisation to be part of. There is a tremendous amount of support and therefore I would recommend BDO LLP to an friend.
I would give the advice for anyone applying to be individual and act themselves in the interview. BDO LLP is a very personal firm and so it is very focused on the individual.
