I am currently a GTAM mechancal apprentice which involeves the installation and maintenance of the high pressure gas pipe line infastructure. Currently my apprenticeship consists of the completion of a PEO level 2 and the completion of a BTEC Level 3 in mechanical engineering. I have recieved the necissary health and safety training needed to carry out my role. All training provided to date has been to a high standard.
I have developed skills such as pipe fitting, working in the imperial measuring and metric measuring systems and maintenance scheme. I have also gained presentation skills, performance excellence skills and many more skills which have greatly improved my knowledge in the Gas industry.
I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship and feel honoured to work along side experienced proffesionals in the gas industry whom willingly share their knowledge.
I feel as though I am a valued employee and gain regular positive feed back from my line manager and superiors.
My programme has been well organised and structured any adjustments to the programme have had at least 4 weeks of notification before the changes have been made.
My training provider carries out regular reviews where I am asked if I require any additional support. My training provider is also available to talk to daily and provides positive feedback.
I recieve lots of support In the form of regular reviews, talks one to one and conversations over the phone. Support is also provided through help lines if needed and through caring colleagues.
The apprenticeship salary provided by National Grid is far superior to any other apprenticeship which I had viewed before joining National Grid. National Grid also offers many insentives and bonuses for good performance throughout the apprenticeship as well as pay rises.
National Grid allows travel time on Fridays meaning 11:30 finnishes allowing plenty time for out of work activities. We also finnish at 4:30 on tuesday to thursday allowing plenty of time for activities after work.

A brilliant company to work for with friendly employees and plenty of progression routes to go down. I have gained so much knowledge from National Grid which I can apply to my job role on a day to day basis.
Be yourself and have a genuine interest for engineering and the gas industry.
