My daily tasks might involve lab testing, attending meetings, recording and summarising results and generally learning new things about packaging. There is opportunity for secondments into other functions so day to day tasks could vary a lot.
the degree earned at the end is BEnd Manufacturing Systems Engineering. but at some point a packaging diploma will be studied for. there are many internal training courses online. personal development as been a big one for me.
I enjoy the work side more than the university side of things. the team is really great and the office has a good atmosphere. it has
I feel pretty valued and there is always recognition when you have done a particularly good job on a task.
as i was part of the first packaging apprentice recruitment at port sunlight I would say the programme wasn't particularly well structure however I appreciated that it wouldn't be 100% straight away. university has been a pain for the first couple years as it was spread out over a few days but will become 1 day a week next year. however there is always support when needed
first year of uni I found to be a struggle as we were integrated with about 200 full time first years. 2nd year has been better though and next year will be 1 day a week on the proper part time course which is 1 day a week.
the employer is great and I have the best manager who has always been supportive towards me
the salary is good and increases each year
there are apprentice outreach opportunities and an external team building event once a year but there are activities during work mainly.
Yes
its a great place to work and gain invaluable experience
make sure you meet the requirements specified on the job description and be passionate about what you could end up getting involved in. make sure it is what you want to do.
