My role is a Buyers Adim Assistant on the bikes and bike accs category. On a day to day basis I work alongside my buyer to ensure that great products are sourced at a great price for our customers. I ensure that all lines are set up on the systems correctly so that when the product launches in store or online there is no issues. I also complete a number of reports to ensure everything is running smoothly.
I have developed my ICT skills dramatically as I am on my laptop all day most days. I did ICT for alevel so my knowledge was of a high standard beforehand, its surprising how much further this has developed. I have learnt how to speak to suppliers over the phone and on email, as well as how to lead supplier meetings.
Overall I am enjoying my programme. My team are fantastic and very supportive and this encourages me to work hard. I do enjoy the apprenticeship side of the job as I am developing myself but it is hard work completing assignments alongside a full time job.
I feel fairly valued by Tesco. I think that sometimes it is hard to feel valued in such a large company with so many employees but you need to remember that although your work is just a drop in the ocean it is important. My manager is very good at making me feel valued.
It is clear when we have development days and when assignments will be set and when they will be due in but its not clear at all when we will develop within our roles.
I feel that we get a great deal of support over email and telephone but because they don't work within the local area it is hard to receive support face to face.
I feel that I get a great deal of support from my team and my managers. They all understand my work load and are supportive of what I am doing. I feel that HR don't really get involved on a personal level, just on a generic.
I have relocated for this job and therefore my salary does not meet my costs at all. If I didn't relocate then I feel this would be different, but the cost of living is very expensive and the salary does not match this.
I have a great team and we do something at least once a week, such as drinks and meals. There is also a large Christmas party that was fun, but no other events on this scale throughout the year. There is also a GM netball team which I have joined and is great fun. There was also the opportunity to apply for roles within the EC society which I was successful in.
Yes
Because they are a large company that use their scale for good. There is so much scope and so much to learn. So many employees so there is the chance to meet so many different types of people and learn from them.
Be yourself and make sure that this comes across is applications and interviews. Don't try to force being what you think the ideal candidate is as within Tesco there is so much scope and a large amount of different people make up a great company.
