As part of my apprenticeship, I am carrying out the role of a trainee merchandiser. On a regular basis I will be transferring stock between depots in order to ensure we achieve an availability rate of at least 95%. This involves we working closely with my line manager, the other teams across GM, HSC, the hubs and suppliers. I mainly look after kids, water filters and cook. Kids is the department my team are looking at giving me to manage within the next few months.
I have developed my excel skills dramatically, as it software I am using evry day in order to complete my course. I have also had the chance to develop personal skills such as my personal brand and networking, which I can see has helped a lot in my job as a result of the things I have learnt.
I thoroughly enjoy the promgramme, we have a lot of support from the scheme sponsors, they are very welcoming and will help with any issues we may face. The company culture is superb, everyone is kind and friendly, age is not taken into account, at Tesco we are all one person. No matter what team you are on, anyone will help you with any issue you may face. I did not expect to be this comfortable in my first full time job, but with the support of my team, buddy and mentor, I am very comfortable and can confidently say I have found my feet in the business.
I feel very valued by Tesco, my manager will talk me through any issue I have faced. The main issue I facedn in my first few months was that a close family member passed away, and the support I received was unbelievable, more than words can say. Additionally, I have been given Clipstrips as a project to look after, considering I have joined straight from school, I feel valued from the responsibility I have been given which is very motivational.
My programme is well structure and organised. We had a 3 day induction which helped welcome us into the business, where we learnt what was expected of us and the Tesco way of working. There are constant opportunites, involving numerous course and workshops you can attend which can help dramatically with your development. We have a huge amount a support from our sponsors and team, allowing us to do studying during the working day, meaning we do not have to work constantly when we finish work. Furthermore, we have been given the chance to have a mentor which I find extremely useful as they help you develop as a person, therefore contributing to your personal development.
We receive a large amount of support from our training provider. Our course respresentive from Learn direct is lovely, friendly and welcoming. She motivates us to do our work to the best of our ability, and any issues we face no matter the time, she will be there to help and advice. My training provider as a strong and positive attitude, she is confident we will all succeed. Overall I thoroughly enjoy this course.
We receive a lot of support from our employer. We have regular meetings with the HR department, which allows us to address any personal issues we may have. My manager also dedicates a large amount of her time to ensuring I am comfortable with not just my work but my coursework aswell, she goes above and beyond what is needed. No matter the issue, no matter the time, there is someone at Tesco who will support you until the issue is resolved.
For a school leaver, the salary is more than I expected. It meets all my costs needed. The salary allows me to live close to the office in a nice area, allows me to run a car, allows me to regularly go to london and have days out, with money left over at the end of the month.
Before working for Tesco, I had a part time job with not many opportunities at all. Working for tesco, is literally having the world at your feet, there are so many paths you can follow. Tesco runs numerous social events allowing you to meet people throughout the company, this includes having their own gym as part of the office.
Yes
It is a great place to work, there are numerous opportunities available to you, so you never have to worry about not finding your place. Additiionally, the peopl are lovely and friendly, never have I met a company who are as welcoming as Tesco are.
When applying take your time, but don't panic. Tesco expects you to be nervous, you can only do your best. In terms of the interviews and assessment, yes they are nerve racking but being out of your comfort zone is what shows your true character. You are your own person, no one can take that away from you, so make your you stay your true self.
