Tool maker Day to day roles include: setting up laser tracker 'Booking' jobs into the machine for a best fit fixing and aligning any failures on jigs
CAD and tracking skills. I developed my understanding on accuracy and theory behind the job and the variations of heat on jigs. I have developed my problem solving skills in this section also
I really enjoy my position as each day is different and I am building up a knowledge of common problems and the more complex and rare, as a toolmaker you can be called out to fix any number of problems at anytime of day so experience is key.
I feel very valued as I am offered anything I may need and have been given all the tools personally to complete day to day tasks and I am seen as part of the team
Very well organised in the workplace. work is always available and points of contact easy to find
I have monthly meetings although I am allowed to email and call them whenever I need them and even set up extra meetings where they will sit and explain what to do with any problems I encounter
As above. BAE systems have provided me with essential care for parts of my health, they have also trained me very well and the staff are always very supportive
As with anyone I could do with a higher wage although for an apprentice I am very happy with my overall wage.
The company hold a variety of events and staff organise plenty of social and hobby clubs. as a large company there is something for everyone to be apart of. Outside of work I go to the gym and generally have a good social life, I am wanting to start learning an instrument and I know the company will have someone or a club dedicated to that.
Yes
Job for life, good wage, laid back skilled workers who are after teaching you the job not have you sweep up or sit and watch
Be yourself and be hard working.
