  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Gas Apprentice PCS During the apprenticeship we are guided through a number of qualifications while at Eakring Training Centre as well as working on site with technicians when we are away from Eakring giving us an opportunity to complete work as we would when we are qualified

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • In the workplace I have learnt a number of skills based on the jobs that we do on site working with the gas equipment and maintaining it, while at Eakring I have started a level 3 btec qualification and completed other qualifications as well

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy working on site with the technicians they are engaging and interesting to work with, while at Eakring the trainers are good and I enjoy working with the other apprentices

  • 4. How valued do you feel by National Grid?
  • Constant communications from managers about site even when i am not on site makes me feel like i am part of the team, as well as being able to voice opinions in 10 weekly reviews.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think the organisation of most of the programme is good however sometimes things can be miss communicated where some trainers thing one thing and we get told something different however they get sorted out quickly.

  • There is a number of tutors and advisers who help and support us throughout the apprenticeship as well as having contact information for more people to talk to about any issues

  • we are given a number of contact points within the business whom we can raise any issues with them

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • the salary is very good much higher than most apprenticeships which gives me motiviation to work harder

  • There are a number of different social gatherings from sites as well as within the training centre that are available for us

  • Yes

  • good organisation with lots of support

  • ensure that they try their hardest in the application process so that they can get into the job
