  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Virgin Media Access Network & Business Engineer. My apprenticeship involved me repairing, maintaining and upgrading the HFC network which provides all of the telephony, TV and broadband services nationally.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have enhanced my knowledge of the network significantly since moving onto Network & Business from a Service Technician. I have seen the background stuff that I have never realised happened and some of the services that the company offer such as B2B.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed my apprenticeship immensley and I'm greatfull to be given the opportunity to have enhanced my knowledge as muh as I have. I have benefitted hugley from this apprenticeship and one of the main reasons from it being enjoyable was the Network team I was shadowing, in which I am now fully intergrated into that very team.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Virgin Media O2?
  • Virgin Media ensure that their employees are looked after, have great benefits and also get recognition for doing a great job by colleageus & managers.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It seemed like a well organised apprenticeship even though it was the first of its kind for the company. I had a structured plan that I had agreed with the Engineers with the days I was shadowing and the day I carried out admin tasks to complete the qualification.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I had a mentor which was a current Network Engineer and my role initially was to shadow him permantley with eventually carrying out the tasks under hsi supervision. I felt like I had received constant and reliable feedback from my mentor ensuring that if I made a mistake I was always allowed to rectify this along as I knew that I'd made one. My mentor has since gone on to make Senior Engineer within our team.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My apprentice manager was a great help as he enabled me the time and resources to successfully complete my work, both practical and theory based.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Since completing my qualification I have had a payrise from my previous job as a Service Technician which is always welcomed, but I do feel that the work that I do and the knowledge I have is reflected with the salary I'm on.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes! With Virgin Media being a massive telecommunications company and being apart of the Virgin brand there are hundreds of opportunities to engage in activities outside of work such as V Festival.

  • Yes

  • I would recommend Virgin Media to others as a great place to work as I have successfully completed my 2nd apprenticeship and enjoy my job. The company is great to work for, me and my colleagues are all respected and there are some fantastic benefits to take advantage of.
