The aim for each day is to learn and improve on the skills that are needed in the engineering workplace. Most days are based around completing a task, which may be building or making something to a specification, then reviewing it and reflecting upon the skills used.
I have learned hand fitting techniques, machining, and wiring electrical circuits. Throughout specialisation more skills are planned such as welding and fabrication.
I am enjoying the programme as it is interesting and challenging. The fact that we rotate sections keeps things new and helps you stay motivated.
BAE systems is a company that cares very much about its employees and I feel cared about. they have programmes and facilities available if needed.
On the whole, it is structured quite well and the jobs are thought of carefully. however, there have been times where we are left with little or no work to do due to poor organisational skills.
I receive any support that I need. if the instructors cant give that support they will find someone who can. if I am struggling with anything I feel I can go and ask an instructor.
I am constantly updated on new schemes and how the company is running. this is done by email. I can also access email addresses of anyone who I may need to contact.
The apprenticeship is paid fairly well (above minimum wage). we are given pay structures so we can budget income and expenditure accordingly.
There is extra training if needed. there are opportunities to travel around the world to work. We have been told there are things such as union and social clubs we can get involved in.
