My job title is Project Control Higher Apprentice and my first placement is in Small Boats. My day to day activities involve working toward the completion of my objectives; which are like small projects themselves. In addition to completing specific tasks for the team and my manager.
Since starting my apprenticeship, I have learnt many new skills which mainly involve my technical knowledge of boats, as well as my knowledge of how the processes operate in BAE Systems. Furthermore, I have significantly developed my existing IT skills.
I enjoy working with my fellow PCFS cohort on college projects and also in the work environment. I also enjoy how much responsibility I am given in the workplace, which has allowed me to develop as an individual.
I feel that there is really good internal recognition processes in BAE, that allow you to feel rewarded from hard work during 12 week reviews or PDRs. Furthermore, getting involved in events such as APM Challenge and STEM activities receives appreciation from management.
The induction was comprehensive and provided the right amount of information considering the settling in period circumstances! There is a lot of support from BAE management with regards to communications with the college.
I feel that I have a lot of support from our training provide, if you are willing to ask, they are more than willing to help. I have not yet encountered any problems personally, but I know that there are platforms I can access if I need assistance.
The support received from my employer is great with regards to my training. They are willing to help with any issues and can resolve them promptly. Also, they are aware of all of our commitments, so will know if we are busy and cannot take on extra responsibility.
The salary meets my current living costs, which are at home where I pay rent, insurance etc. However, as the package increases as per the guidelines it will definitely be more viable for me to start thinking about renting a property of my own.
There are so many events that are available for Higher Apprentices to get involved in and they are well advertised, so it is difficult to miss out on any opportunities! This makes the experience really enjoyable and I would definitely recommend getting involved with activities to other apprentices.

In the application, make sure you only include factual incidents and show some personality. The same applies to the interview. You can be professional but still maintain an element of what makes you you; this is what they will be after.
