I am an Avionics Technician within TMF at RAF Coningsby. My daily tasks include a variety of avionic/electrical rectification and testing on the Typhoon aircraft to make it serviceable for flying by the RAF. I am part of a fantastic 8 man team that carries out work on a single jet from start to finish during its service.
I have developed a variety of hand skills and also a vast knowledge of the Typhoon aircraft. I am currently working towards my level 3 diploma in aeronautical engineering.
I have really enjoyed all aspects of my apprenticeship right through from the AMA to RAF Coningsby. I get on very well with all my teams members and we all work well together.
I feel that BAE values their apprentices highly and sees them as the future of the company so are not afraid to invest in them. Within TMF there are a lot of ex apprentices in various high job roles which highlights the importance BAE place of the apprenticeship scheme.
There is good structure to the programme and I feel that support is there for me from various sources when ever i need it.
My training provider supports me through all of my written work and feel they have a passion for teaching the subject which makes it easier to learn.
I receive great support from my employer who will help me when ever i have a problem with my practical work or any jobs i'm carrying out. They are always happy to help me through any problems i have so i can learn and improve for the future.
I feel the starting salary for apprentices is very competitive against other companies. The salary also increases as you progress through the apprenticeship which is good. The location of the camp was a change for me as i am from a city where there is a lot happening and all RAF camps are in more quiet less built up areas.
BAE are always running events outside work and their are various sports and activities taking place on camp day to day.
