My current placement is PM Governance. This involves the auditing of packs produced by PM teams and also the drive for improvement across the business. I am often interacting with Project managers and their teams.
I have completed mandatory training as well as extra courses such as a PM Masterclass run by a director in the Business. I have also developed my communication skills further in my role due to having to talk to many different people. I am currently studying for a foundation degree and a higher apprenticeship.
I enjoy the work I do and the team that I work in. I was surprised at the responsibility you are given as an apprentice so early on in your career.
At BAE Systems, it doesn't take long before you feel you are actually adding value to the company with the work you do. I also have regular 1-to-1 sessions with my line manager and 12 week reviews with my apprentice managers to ensure I am progressing.
The programme I am on is very well organised, and a path of progression is clearly laid out. we also have opportunity to meet mentors and seek career advice from others.
We are provided with a college day once a week and many facilities at work and the college we go to, to support our studies.
I have regular 1-to-1 sessions with my line manager, and also the support from the apprentice managers is very clear. if any issues do arise, I feel I will have a number of options to go to for support. There has also been a lot of help with career advice and the opportunities I am being provided to progress.
T5he salary is competitive and very sufficient to cover life costs and be able to save as well.
We often play 5-a-side with other apprentices and there are opportunities for apprentices to offer services outside of work i.e. airshows, ambassador events.
