Research and Technology Project Controller. Tasks and Interactions: dealing with external customers, preparing packs for review on internal contracts, preparing agenda to for monthly meeting with external customers, monitoring and controlling spends on internal and external contracts.
I have developed my communication skills becoming confident dealing with external customers and ensuring they are happy with their deliverables. I have attended and ELLA (lean) course to ensure I am getting as much done in the office as possible, and am attending various courses in the future for project control and an RAF awareness course so I am more aware of dealing with customers. I have also recently become accredited by the APM and have become more confident with utilising MS tools.
I really enjoy my programme and I have lots of support within my team, my mentor, my scheme managers and the project management function as a whole. I am responsible for my own work, I am not micro managed and am trusted to get on with my tasks. I am thoroughly enjoying my scheme so far.
My manager makes me feel appreciated, thanking me for my contribution and rating me highly on One File.
The programme is very well organised: 4 days in work, 1 day at university - we are supported by both the company and the college with all of our week. Deadlines are spread out so we do not feel pressured and we are always delegated tasks in work at a pace we can manage.
The college Moodle allows our tutors to add ideas for reading and videos on there that we can look at and include in our assignments to help us to understand the topics. I enjoy college and find the work/college/life balance fairly reasonable to manage.
We can find support anywhere in work (as mentioned in question 3), we are regularly reminded of the ethics hotline.
My salary exceeds my expectations, I get a degree all paid for as well as earning a wage that allows me to be independent. My work is 20 minutes away from home so I do not spend a lot of time commuting and I think it is a great company to work for that offer more than just a wage with their share scheme.
I have attended a few awards evenings that have allowed me to network and meet new people and I take part in ambassador events promoting the company's apprenticeships to schools in my local area.
Yes
Personally I think the company is one of the best to work for in the UK, they offer great wages and various perks such as the share scheme, loans and car schemes. The heavily focus on training you to the best standard and are constantly helping you to improve in your job and provide you with various opportunities to travel and enter new avenues of work.
Application - Proof read your application numerous times - get as many people to proof read it too! Utilise your hobbies as examples to ensure you look like a well rounded person. Spend a lot of time on grammar as poor grammar will not allow you to progress. Online Tests - Ensure the room is silent and you are concentrating solely on the questions as these are extremely difficult. Assessment Days - Make sure you talk to the people also being interviewed as this shows you are confident meeting new people (you may not think you are being assessed at this point, but you are!), be confident, punctual and know your application off by heart.
