I am a claims Handler based in Reinsurance. on a day-to-day basis, I deal with Continental European Claims, specifically Bulgarian and Italian claims. The most important aspect to my job is building up a secure and trustworthy relationship with my clients.
I have learnt alot of new skills, which I have interpreted from the many training courses I have attended since joining Willis. As a Willis School Leaver, we are require to complete the ACII qualification; including the Certificate, Diploma & Advanced diploma. I have already completed the LM1 exam, which I passed early in December 2013. I hope to pass LM2 relatively soon, which will give me the qualification in the London Market. Once I have received this, I will only have one last exam to do in order to be 'Cert CII'.
I enjoy the programme that I am on very well. The people who I work with are extremely friendly and supportive, and if I ever need any help, they are always approachable.
I don't feel as if I have been at Willis long enough yet in order to feel valued. I am still in the process of learning my job role, as well as what Willis is all about. I always try my best to get involved with as much as I can. My Manager often sends out emails asking if we would like to be involved in certain events/activities etc.
The programme that I am on is good, however there are certain aspects of it that I believe need to be improved. 1. We need to be aware of who is in charge of us. Since our very first few weeks at Willis, we have not heard anything from anyone as to how we are getting on, and if there are any problems, who to contact. 2. More support is to be given to us who are studying the ACII. I think at least once a month, we should have someone come in from the CII to teach us the content of the book. It is extremely hard having to teach yourself aswell as revise from what you have taught yourself. It would just be nice to know that we are on the right tracks. 3. Monthly meetings with the person who is in charge of us should be organised. This will enable us to share with eacother our experiences so far, and allow the person who is in charge of us on how we are getting on. It will also enable us to receive an update from the person who is in charge of us, as to any events that we may be able to get involved with, and just any general updates. 4. Now that [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] has taken over as our CII Coordinator, I feel as if it would be useful to also have monthly meetings with her in order for her to advise us of any deadlines that we may have for exams/assignments/coursework, and a layout of when we need specific exams done by.
As previously mentioned, we have not received really anything from anyone since our first few weeks on starting. We have however received updates from [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] as to upcoming training events throughout the upcoming year. I believe that we need to be aware of who our tutor/advisor is in order for us to provide you with the following information you require. I feel that their general attitude towards supporting us would be phenominal, however it is hard at this point, as we are unable to because we do not know who to contact.
Manager I receive so much support from my Manager. She is very approachable when it comes to any problems that I may have, and she is extremely supportive when it comes to Study Leave, Revision sessions and upcoming exams. Unfortunately due to our seating plan within our area, I not able to speak to her as much as I would like to. HR Team As previously mentioned, we have not received anything from them since the first few weeks of joining Willis Mentors I have two mentors who are absolutely amazing. They have been here for me since day 1, and I never feel threatened or worried about approaching them if I encounter a problem either personally or work-related. They are extremely supportive, and it comes to an advantage that they have worked for Willis for many years, so there knowledge about Willis and around Claims is phenominal!
My Salary package meets my costs, however I do believe we should be paid extra for doing the ACII Qualification. I don't feel that it is understood that we are constantly working; we work all day and then we have to go home and teach ourselves and revise from it. It would be nice to feel appreciated for doing the qualification.
There are many opportunities outside and inside of work. It is just about looking out for them!
Yes
It is a great place to work for and there are many doors open to you, if you would like to move up on the ladder.
Know what Willis is/does (many people assume Willis is just an insurance company; pet, travel, car insurance etc) Know a little bit about the background of Lloyds and the London Market If you can, try to arrange for a weeks work experience in your free time. This looks incredibly good on your CV!
