As an aircraft technical apprentice my roles changes with each new placement I do. These roles can be anything from hands on assembly roles to designing components and producing documents.
I have learnt and developed many skills during my time here, within the first year I had furthered my hand fitting techniques. Using equipment like drills, files and panel benders.
Working here at BAE Systems is excellent, there as never been a day where I have not wanted to come to work. The people are very diverse but professional as expected. They also are very welcoming when changing from one department to another.
As an apprentice we are the future of the company, every department I have visited has had similar feelings, when given responsibility to complete a task it is reviewed by my line manager and appropriate appreciation is always given.
The Apprenticeship is very well structured and there are many opportunities to develop and better ourselves. We are all encouraged to take up further education which in our case is aerospace engineering which helps us during our time here.
Our training provider offers us a lot of guidance and has an attitude worth rewarding. There is plenty of support if the apprentice requires it.
Our employer has many policies to help protect the employee, this includes regular health care checks to make sure there we remain healthy to work.
The salary is maintained quite well, it is tailored to the course. If the apprentice has a higher FE level then there is a financial reward to help encourage further development.
There are loads of extra curricular activities which help either understand our products or help out the local communities. We interact with companies with a similar aviation background.
Yes
It is the perfect opportunity for any individual to develop many useful skills which will be ideal in any working environment. Additionally there are not many industries near here.
There is a structured application process to get into BAE including aptitude test. Revision must be done about the company and it's products in order to gain a true understand of what we do here.
