On a day to day basis as an Apprentice Mechanical fitter, you are expected to work with a tradesman and complete the jobs your team leader gives you in your toolbox talk in the morning.
I have learnt many skills during my time as an apprentice, from manual trade skills with tools and equipment, to general social skills and learning more about tax and earnings also.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience as an apprentice, it has taught me many things, I have made many life long friends, and it has set me up for a great career.
I feel very valued by BAE Systems, being part of a decent squad and having verbal appreciation by my teamleader and managers, also by the company in the form of a PRIDE award.
The programme is well structured and planned, occasionally the communication can be lost between work and college, but that's not BAE's fault.
I rarely need support from my training provider, but if I have needed it in the past they have been incredibly helpful and have been there to sort my queries.
If i ever require any support at work, i have many forms of ways of getting it, we have personal coordinators that can help, as well as management and teamleaders and my general squad.
My salary meets my costs brilliantly, as the apprenticeship goes on we get payrises to support the dealines such as completeing certain amounts of work- being in my final year my salary is similar to the national UK average wage whilst I work shifts, so pretty well for an apprentice.
There are a few opportunities outside of work, they arent openly advertised generally, but there are plenty of things you can do if you contact the right people.
Yes
generally a great place to work, good pay, good work, you learn a lot as well as gaining qualifications, there is guaranteed work for years to come.
Swat up on the company before your interview, just generally try and be confident as with any application or interview, the company develop you as a person and you will automatically gain confidence and skills, just be open and go for it.
