Craft apprentice, daily tasks include working to build schedules manufacturing component parts and structures for a range of military aircraft.
I am now working towards a NVQ level 3 in aircraft manufacturing and also in my second year of an ONC qualification in aeronautical engineering. I have also developed my hand fitting skills and interpersonal skills.
The work is varied and very interesting day to day. the company is one of the best to work for. The additional rewards that come with the work and also the work life balance of a 4 day working week is brilliant. Among other benefits. I have enjoyed it very much so far.
I feel very valued, each new placement has been an enjoyable experience. All departments have been praising and very welcoming. I have been able to represent the company on a number of excursions and feel very privileged.
The induction of off the job training is a tried and tested method. It works very well. the training has been professional and valuable. There is support available throughout the programme. You never feel like you are on your own. 12 weekly reviews are mandatory and help with the feedback. And each placement is organised to help aid our development.
My assessor provides on-going support through valuable feedback on our NVQ work and also our on the job training. At the training centre also there was constant support and guidance on the best techniques and help in completing our work. I have been pleased with this so far.
The support so far has been good. If in any instance I have needed time off it has been arranged, and the managers have been very helpful in aiding our completion of job packs for the NVQ work.
We receive travel costs for the duration of our apprenticeship, to cover the distance between sites and the training centre. The salary in relation to other apprenticeship programmes is also very good. I am managing with living costs and the wage rises in increments which is very helpful.
There are constant opportunities arising all the time, award nights,STEM events and road shows to name a few. And I have been lucky enough to attend some of these. There are also opportunities to provide voluntary work for local charities.
Yes
