I am currently working in a college based environment where I have lessons in different engineering subjects in blocks. Whilst here I am completing a BTEC and NVQ qualification.
Yes I have been able to acquire I wide range of new skills and knowledge throughout my time on this course. This includes knowledge of health and safety as well as lots of electrical based practical skills.
I do enjoy it quite a lot as I learn a lot of new things and also have a good social surrounding whilst I am here. Not to ,mention the great facilities so I can keep up with my fitness and healthy lifestyle plan.
I feel extremely valued by network rail, especially heading into my second and third year where I will be drafted out to my actual working depot. This has meant I will need to move house and they have been very supportive with this relocation process.
The structure is good as we have block leave periods to break up the assignment heavy year. I also like the residential side of the course as its a great experience.
there is as much support available as each individual may require. I always feel like I have a port of call if I have any queries or concerns with anything on the course
They are always very supportive in both an academic sense and when it comes to personal life and living. as mentioned before they were more than happy to help out with my relocation process.
Although we do not receive a great amount of pay, it is all ours to keep as our living costs and food bill is covered entirely by network rail. this leaves us free to spend it or save it however we see fit.
Being residential on an active naval base, we have access to a huge range of extra curricular activities, mainly based on fitness which is just ideal for me personally. We can use the gym, swimming pool, sports equipment, cardio machines and more!
Yes
Its just a great opportunity to get into a brilliant company that cares about its apprentices and will do whatever it takes to help you succeed, so long as you are willing to put the effort in as well.
I would say make sure you are super enthusiastic and passionate in your interview. It's also important to just get your head down to complete your assignments as quickly as possible so you wont need to stress and you'll have plenty of free time.
