Auditor. Job is to support other members of a team in completeing statutory audits for various clients. Interacting with a wide variety of individuals, particularly the accounts departments of BDOs clients. My responsibilities vary dependant on the client I am booked to. generally my roll entails completing audit tests as part of the wider audit. As above, on a day to day basis I visit client locations to collect audit evidence and help constuct an audit opinon for the client.
As part of my apprenticeship I am currently working to gain my CFAB qualification, and after that I hope to move onto my ACA. BDO have also trained me in a number of more specific areas to give me the skills needed to complete my day to day job. So far this has included training in Audit generally, as well as auditing pension schemes. Due to my constant interaction with other proffesionals my people skills are constantly improving as well as my confidence. Along with this skills such as Excel begin to come naturally due to its use everyday.
I thouroughly enjoy my program. I feel BDO are increadibly supportive and everyone is very approachable from Junior to Partner. I have found the rate at which I have learnt very rewarding. Working in a team most days is also fantastically condusive to learning which I feel is one of the real positives of this program.
I feel very valued within BDO. I am constantly encouranged to push myself and try new jobs, rather than doing the same tasks multiple times. When I complete a task well I am recognised for doing so which really encourages high quality work. Awards are also available for exceptionally good work, which again, is a strong encourangment.
Generally the structure of the program is very good. From day one BDO have ensure that I have the skills needed to complete my day to day tasks. With an initial two weeks induction I felt prepared to start my job.Throughout my time at BDO I have had the support I have needed with my studies. I have regular meetings with my mentor which allows me to express any concerns I have. On a day to day basis there is a clear team hierarchy, within which I know where I stand. This gives my roll structure and consistancy, which I feel is very helpful as I learn.
I feel that support from the provider has somewhat a weakness in the program. I feel the relationship between aprentice and provider is not as strong as it is with the employer and therefore getting needed support is harder. Replies to queiries takes a little longer and it is less personal. I get the feeling that I am just one of many students, which does not feel very personal.
Support from BDO is fantasic. As I have mentioned in pervious answers if I ever have a question or worries there are a huge number of people I can talk to at all levels from my own all the way to partners. I have a designated "buddy" who is another enployee a similar level to me who I can ask anything I like, as well as a more senior mentor, who is a more formal point of contact. I can turn to either of these people and feel like I will get an honest and constructive answer.
With careful money management I do not feel like money is a problem. Any excessive travel costs are covered by the expenses system which leaves my standard salary to cover my rent and other outgoings. I feel that generally my salary meets the costs of living within Leeds although sometimgs social and leisure expense may suffer.
Regular social events mean that I can get to know many of my collegues outside of the workplace. Most of these events are fairly informal, however every now and then bigger, tembuilding events are run. While I feel these events are a stong opportunity, I do feel there could be more, or better advertised events to encourage a better turn out, or to make me aware of their existance. Outside of BDO organised events, they will support me in charitable work if I so wish and give me time off to pursue this if nessisary. When I am not working, I enjoy socialising with freinds outside of the workplace. However I have only just moved to the area and there am still looking for things such as sports teams to join.
Yes
For all of the points raised above. The attitude in the office is very possitive and supportive. There is very little I can fault with the porgram I am on and would gladly reccommend it to any of my freinds.
I would advise them to be themselves throughout the application/recruitment prosess. Be as possitive as possible and ensure you are prepared for each stage. By being prepared you will be more confident which in turn will allow you to be yourself and give you a much better feel of if you will be a fit for BDO and visa versa. There isnt a lot else to say. Due to how supportive BDO are, they generally guide you through each stage naturally.
