Machnist trainee. Operation of CNC Electro Discharge Machines. Working with Manufaturing Engineers and management to improve productivity and increase efficiency.
I now have a good knowledge in engineering and aerospace and have also learned the fundamentals of machine and tool operation. The main new skill I have gained is how to methodically approach tasks and think critically about what I am doing. This is a valuable skill in most aspects of life and has helped me in seveal areas outside of work, mostly relating to practical tasks.
I enjoy learning new skills and developing exisitng ones. I like taking on challenges and experiencing areas I haven't previously worked in
Relatively well valued. I don't feel I'm necessarily as utilised as I could be and there aren't as many opportunities for professional as I had hoped for but I think that is mainly because I am in an apprenticeship which needs completing before I can advance on to further things. In terms of personal treatment I couldn't fault Rolls Royce.
Organisation and structure does leave a bit to be desired. I think there needs to be more felixibility in what I am allowed to do. I have fortnately been able to manage my apprenticeship my self to a certain extent, althogh this is not necessarily the way it should be done, I have foun it beneficial as I am still ahead of my plan and have been able to develop my self in other areas where I might not have had chance.
My current training provider gives me more than significant support. This is not always the case however as previously I had been without a training provider for several months.
As much as I need. I personally haven't needed a huge amount of support since the start of my apprenticeship but I know of others who have required significant support both personally and professionally and Rolls Royce have delivered this.
As the apprenticeship wage is equal to or better than most others I can't compain about the salary.
Yes, the AGA organised a multitude of events outside of work and the staff at the training centre are always accomodating to additional development.
Yes
It is an enjoyable company to work for. The pay and benefits are excellent and there are plenty of career development opportunities, mainly once you have completed the apprenticeship.
Research the industry and company prior to applying and speak to other apprenitces if possible.
