My current Role within Rolls-Royce is a component definition engineer apprentice which involves creating engineering drawings and models for multiple different parts of the engine.
During my time at Rolls-Royce so far, i believe i have both learnt new skills and improved my exisiting ones. This is shown by my additional qualifications with my BTEC level 2&3, and i am also towards the end of my first year in HNC.
Really enjoy my time every day in work. This is mainly down to the team of people i have met in all of my work placements, as they are very friendly and help with the tasks i am set.
Regarding jobs i do feel valued as i am completing jobs which are required for the bigger picture, and therefore can see my work has helped the overall process.
Overall the programme is well thought out as i have been in many different sectors of the business, but i would say that there is an end goal lacking in my particular year due to job cuts which gives a level of uncertainty as i am coming to the end of my apprenticeship.
I feel like i get the right amount of support from my training provider as we have regular meeting regarding my current work and progress.
As i have had many different managers during my different placements its hard to generalise, but generally they have been very supportive of me and helped as much as they can during my time under them.
I think we are paid pretty fairly as we get pay rises when different parts of our NVQ is completed, but i feel less motivated especially when other non skilled jobs are earning a lot more than us - but i feel this is fair as they pay for my education fees etc.
Yes there are lots of different clubs you can join, like the AA (Apprentice Association)which helps you meet new people, which is great especially if you have moved to a new area.
Yes
Have gained new experiece and skill working in a real life environment rather than at a desk full time at university. And also have gained new qualifications to take forward with me in the future.
Make sure that you do lots of research prior to applying, as you should know the state of the business, opportunities they have and see if they meet what you would like to do yourself.
