My role is currently training to be a manufacturing engineer, involving fixture design, new product introduction of combustors, and continuous improvement tasks.
Yes, I've learnt new CAD skills taking a 20 week long course using team centre 10 and Seimens NX 9, New machining and fabircation skills such as milling, turning, welding, CNC (FANUC), and assembly and fitting.
yes I have. Overall its a great oppurtunity, and a great way to earn as you learn, especially the ability to gain qaulificaions all the way up to a BEng degree.
I feel very valued by Rolls-Royce as my supervisors and managers all give me feedback on my work and give me hints and tips on how to better myself for my job role.
I feel like it could be a lot more structured in the years I went through the programme. I got assigned an Apprentice Development Manager in the first week, however he left and moved job role which I was then left 9 months out of an ADL which I had no support person for my apprenticeship. Now, we also have to arrange our own work placements as my ADL doesnt do this, but I think they should do.
Limited support as I am going though a Foudnation Degree so thereis little input from the trainers at my training provider which can make it hard to get through assignments and understand them, however that's not for all subjects I study, only a couple.
I receive a lot of support from the people who I work with, not the employer as a whole. I feel I can approach the people I work with more than a manager or person in command in the apprenticeship scheme.
My salary meets my cost enough to save and spend every month and afford most things, however I dont think its enough for someone who lives in their own home so I feel like the salary for apprentices is aimed at young people who are living with their parents, not adults who may take an apprenticeship.
There are not really plenty of opppurtunities outside of work as my time gets taken up by the apprenticeship, so I can struggle to have a good social life sometimes as I seem to be always doing work at home as well as in the day and it can get tiring.
Yes
Rolls-Royce is one of the best employers in my veiw and a lot of other people's too. Its an excellent place to work and depending on which site you are on, it can be a very easy job which makes it very enjoyable, increaseing wok ethics. Oppurtunities you get are un-paralleled to other employers and there are plenty of spaces to move around within the company, unlike smaller companies who offer apprenticeship schemes.
I would say to other people to go for it as its an excellent oppurtunity to get. Even if you dont get a career at Rolls-Royce, you can easily go to other places as RR training is saughted after. It is difficult to get into, so try hard and do your best at all times to make the most of it.
