For the first year of my apprenticeship I am at college full time to gain the required skills necessary to work in the business. Two days a week I am in the workshop all day and the erst of the week I am working towards my level 3 with subjects such as mechanical principles and maths. I am training to become a calibration technician.
I feel that I have learnt new skills within the different workshops, that can be used in the business or in everyday use. I also feel that I am learning new skills that can be used in the business in my level 3 subjects.
Overall I am enjoying the program as the subjects are interesting and difficult enough to keep me engaged. However some of the subjects could be more challenging
As a BAE Apprentice I feel like there are lot of opportunities for appreciation, mainly this appreciation comes from the apprentice of the month awards and the 12 week reviews.
The program I am currently undertaking is very well structured. I received an induction to BAE as a business and an induction to the college as well as health and safety talks in all of the workshops. WE also have meetings with a member of BAE staff every 12 weeks to discuss progress and any problems.
In college I receive all the support I need from the various subject teachers. There is also a student support office within the college building that is available to help with an issues you may encounter
Overall you receive a lot of support from the BAE staff in form of 12 week reviews. there is also an apprentice liaison based in the college building.
The salary i receive as an apprentice meets my costs very well, and continues to improve with pay rises every year.
There are opportunities for apprentices to get involved with, the most popular being the apprentice rugby and football teams. There are also company events and talks that you can go to to learn more about your job and the business as a whole
Yes
BAE offers excellent training and good salary, it also offers opportunities to learn and obtain optional qualifications that might help you in the future.
When applying for BAE I recommend that you show an interest in engineers and the subject of chosen apprenticeship.
