As a Technician Apprentice my role is to assist the design of a ship, I am involved in various activities including Initial Design, mid and final design, I have also had placements in liaison assisting the production teams in constructing a ship.
I have developed all my key skills, my communication skills have been vastly improved due to the amount of presentations that I have been involved in. I have also learned about planning and keeping everything to a time schedule to achieve a goal.
The programme is very enjoyable not only are you getting paid to learn, you are also given many opportunities to develop your skills. The programme is helping you develop your skills to progress in the world and the buisness
I feel the company values all of its apprentices, the treat you as if you are part of the team from day 1 and give you all the activities a fully qualified team member would undertake except with tuition throughout.
The programme is structure adequately to develop all my skills to help me progress through my apprenticeship and beyond this may have a result of the business having an apprentice scheme for many years and making it one of the best in Scotland.
The training is provided by Glasgow Clyde College and throughout the 4 years of the apprenticeship they support you along with the business they will help you progress if you are struggling.
The employers give all relevant support to help you progress through the apprentice scheme, they also offer various types of support depending on your situation to help you not only cope with working life but your personal life.
The salary has just been altered so it meets everyone's needs. At the end of each month I have money left, the business also have a share scheme which helps you save money for house deposit etc.
There are many opportunities outwith the workplace, The business are part of the STEM Net team where you can go out to schools and encourage them to become engineers. Can go out to local charities and support throughout the year.

The company are a worldwide business with very large prospects that will keep the company going for decades to come, they pay a very competitive wage and will put you through education as far as you want to go they will even send you to uni for a degree.
Have a keen interest in engineering, always investigate what you know about the business, don't be put off by the test during the application process the time is not long enough for you to complete the full test it is only to see how you deal with time constraints.
