The job role is Maintenance Technician. Our daily tasks consist of doing planned maintenance on machinary and equipment around the plant in order to keep the plant running at its full capacity to produce as many cars as possible.
I have gained a range of qualifications and still have the opportunity to gain more including; NVQ Level 3 BTEC Level 3 Trailblazer Qualification HNC I have also developed life skills.
I enjoy the programme a lot. You learn a lot and you rotate around the different techonolgies which involve different types of work therefore dont do repetetive tasks and instead always learn new skills.
I feel the manager's show appreciation as do the Skilled Men you're working with because at times we are a big help to them for smaller tasks if they need to do bigger ones. Also I feel we get recognised for doing good work therefore are motivated to work harder.
The programme is very structured; you begin with induction days, you then go on a team building trip to Skern Lodge, before finally coming to work; Once started you spend the first year training, second and third years following a rota rotating around the main technologies and the fourth yeah in the final placement.
The training provider is always at hand to chat to when you need him and will always listen. They will often help you as much as they can and have a good attitude to teaching you and training you.
The manager supports you a lot, having meetings with you keeping you informed of whats happening with the apprenticeship and any changed to the programmes. The HR Team are always available via email. The managers attitudes towards apprentices are good because they see us as the future.
The salary meets my costs; the wage is very good and doesnt compare to my living costs because I live close to work therefore am still at home paying little rent and only travel around 7 miles to get to work. Also there are canteens on site which are cheap for the daily costs.
Yeah there are many opportunities for company events etc outside of work. We go to schools/career fairs etc to help promote the apprenticeship.
Yes
I would reccomend BMW Group to a friend because you gain good life skills, as well as very good engineering skills. The money is good, its a great company to work for, the qualifications you get could take you far in life and there are perks such as the Car Scheme.
I would advise them to be confident in interviews/assessment days. Also to research exactly what the job is because there was many people who applied for the job not knowing exactly what it was thinking they'd be working on cars.
