I'm a mechanical technician trainee. I work alongside my mentor, designing HVAC systems. Pressure drop calculations, ventilation requirments. I also do CAD work, drawing schematics and working in Revit.
Level 3 Btec in Building services engineering. Revit. HVAC system design.
I enjoy working in a team. i enjoy working on a variety of projects and learning new aspects of the job. Above and beyond my expectations really.
Appreciation comes from all my colleagues from the group director, to my line manager and mentor. very encouraging feedback.
very well. i have training, support, education to get my qualifications and experience. College has been fairly unorganised when delegating th ecourse and having teachers, but the student have managed to pull hrough with th ebacking of engineering workships to help us understand the college course.
college have "tried" but on a number of occasions fell short, due to lack of resources, and organisation for example the NVQ, and some subject, however outstanding teachers have gone above and beyond to help resolve issues.
mentors are great, they organise work for me in advance and where possible also allows me to work with various other members of th eteam. when i dont understand problems, they gladly help me out, from all disciplines, particulary electrical and acoustics.
it's decent for my current situation, and will hopefully increase over time.
yes, i regularly attend various events, and including those with the ministers such as Matthew hancock and nick clegg, as well as various women confrences and STEM events.
Yes
It fantastic oppourtunity, where there goal is to homegrown the next generation of engineering technicians. they are doing a very good job and the pay is good.
be confident, friendly and approachable, apply with good grades, and be ready to go into full time work and balance studying as the courses are heavy, but it is worthwile as the company aims to keep us long term.
