  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My current role involves a lot of CAD work this is something that i generally do on a daily basis and is something that i have found i really enjoy doing. Other things that i do consist of contributing to the creation of documents such as spreadsheets and reports.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My ability to use CAD is the main skill i have learned as i have gone from no ability what so ever to now being reasonably useful with it. I have also learned quite a lot about different technical aspects of the job which i knew nothing about before i started, such as the make up of roads and different types of materials that are used in different situations.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying it, the college course that i take part in is really good and interesting, i am learning lots of things that i knew nothing about beforehand. The work based aspect of the programme is even better, one of the main reasons that i enjoy it is that you get to work on real projects that you can see being developed and you know that you have been part of it.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Arup?
  • I feel very valued by arup for a few reasons, firstly i feel valued as i am trusted to get on with tasks that often have a lot of importance and responsibility and this trust makes me feel valued. Also that i am being put through the college course with a lot of support from arup and the people that i work with.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is quite well structured with a clear path of where i should be going and what i should be doing when.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I get a lot of support from my training provider whilst i am at college there is always someone to help you and discuss anything you might want to ask. There are also regular progress meetings where you meet with the tutor and discuss your progress this is very good as they help you to succeed through the course

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a lot of support from my employer not only from the people in my office that i work with but also from people in other offices throughout the country, there is also an effort to make all the apprentices nationwide aware of each other and this is very good as it promotes peer support.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I am very pleased with this.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • there have been a few occasions where i have been able to do soething a bit different from my day to day role such as visiting a site, conducting a traffic survey, extra training courses as well as visiting other offices in different parts of the country

  • 9. Would you recommend Arup to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it is such a great place to work and everybody that i work with is friendly and helpful, also the apprenticeship programme is very good


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
  • Make sure that you are enthusiastic about the role you are applying for and then you will enjoy it when you start
