Im training to become a telecomunications technician, daily tasks include following a trained technician around while he talks me through the tasks he undertakes whilst he also lets me try myself while supervising. I interact with many people during a normal day and my responsibilities are to keep safe on track and respect others.
I have undertaken many qualifications over the past year or so and also done training courses which enable me to do my job better. i have learnt all about old legacy telecoms systems whilst also learning about the new equipment now starting to come in.
i thoroughly enjoy my program, the courses are very helpful and i learn a lot. The people i work with constantly help me an really want me to succeed with make you enjoy the experience much more.
Network rail value the apprenticeship very highly as they invest a lot of money within us and through out the company apprentices have gone on to do great things which really makes me feel of value to the company.
network rail is very well structured, i know exactly whats coming up many months in advance which is good for planning around things and knowing where im going. the training courses are very well delivered and i have no problem with the amount of work. my manager always wants to get me involved but only does this when it will benefit me which is good management.
i get a lot of support from the training provided. if im unsure about anything i can talk to them or email them and it will start off a full blown converstion to help me understand what im not getting. there is access online to unlimeted amount of support and websites as well.
my manager is very supportive and contributes to my learning an awful lot. without him i may not know as much as i do now. there is constant access to support and hes always sending me documents for knowledge which could come in hand. his general attitude toward apprentices is brilliant.
the wage is very fair i believe i am being payed enough for the resposibility i have and i can quite comfortably live day to day on the money i am payed.
there isnt many company events outside of work. at christmas and easter and all the holidays there is normally a night to go out all together but besides this there really isnt much else.
Yes
I don't really have any complaints about Network Rail as a company, they do everything they can to help you train and to help you turn into the best employee you can be for them. this benefits both sides.
make sure you understand how safety critical Network Rail is as a company and understand the importance of working at full efficiency in the safest way possible.
