I work currently as a designer, on a day to day basis i am talking to a large number of people collecting information about a specific part. This is to help take it through a review gate that looks at the service history.
I have mainly developed my thinking and communication skills. With regards to thinking i have found that i now take a step back and look at varieties of ways to tackle a problem. Communication is key in such a large company and so i now know how to make the most of a 50 minute meeting or short conversation.
I enjoy the social aspects and certain parts of the job. I am on placements around the company and so may enjoy one but not the other. I have made lots of new friends and this has helped when feeling like you're missing out on 'the uni life'.
They make sure their apprentices know they are the future. I know i am needed and that eventually i will be the future. Apprentices are integral to the company.
There is a vague structure that is solid, however details are often last minute organised. This is mainly due to the fact we are a functioning company and so profit comes first.
As much as is neccesary, i have never felt like there are resources that i need but dont have access too.
Not much, the external training provider is in charge of everything.
At the moment not very well, i dont manage to save much and live from month to month. However there is no debt that i would otherwise get from uni
There are lots of social and sport clubs that can be joined. They also provide STEM activities to take part in, helping out at local schools and events such as the big bang fair.
Yes
They provide you with a degree, salary and then afterwards you have completed an apprenticeship at RR, everybody will want you. It's a hard graft but it will certainly be worth it.
Be confident, the people interviewing you are just people from the business who have volunteered. They are happy for you to just talk to them as long as its relevant, it doesnt have to be a formal presentation. Also list everything you have done, you would be amazed at how the simplest qualification or most random job you have had will be useful when translated to RR.
