At the moment we are doing an electrical course so the majority is in the classroom. We do knowledge questions, work plans and we will be doing some practical. However our last course was mechanical and we were in the workshop.
I have developed some of my existing skills, such as operating on lathes and milling machines. I feel I am now able to set up and use these machines now without much, if any help. I have also learnt some new skills such as using a HILTI gun and will be soon learning to braising.
I do enjoy the programme very much, I feel I am learning new and useful skills which will help me in my career and life. The course is very interesting and I enjoy both the practical and theory side of it.
I do feel valued by BAE systems, from both the instructors and other apprentices. We are all listened to and can raise our thoughts, and if you have any concerns.
I think now it is organised and structured, but our last course, when we were in the workshop is delayed by quite a bit as we didn't have all the correct tools to begin with, and we didn't get all the materials to work on.
The support is there if it is needed, I only ask for the support if I need it.
Again, The support is there if it is needed, and I only ask for support when I feel I need it.
The salary/ package meets my costs very well. As I am from school and only 16 I don't have all the costs that some of the older apprentices have. So for me it is very good.
Yes, for example we were all taken to outward bound in the lake district which was good fun. There is also 5 a side football and field gun.
Yes
I think it is a great company to work for, they give you knowledge, new skills, develop on existing skills and help you succeed.
If you are interested in joining straight from school, like I did. Try your hardest in your exams and be confident at the interviews.
