I am currently a first year apprentice studying at MHS Sultan completing an engineering apprenticeship to allow me to be qualified to work on the railway.
I have learnt lots of new skills during my apprenticeship. practical skills during the NVQ section and theory skills during the B-tec. I look forward to using the skills I have learnt in my later career.
I have enjoyed my time here and met lots of new people and learnt lots of new skills. however I find spending time at Collingwood over the weekend and in the evenings to be quite boring.
I feel very valued within the company as we are constantly reminded that we are the future of network rail. I also felt very valued during my depot visit which made me feel a lot more comfortable about starting in June.
the scheme is well structured and I was very impressed with the whole recruitment process and the structure of the overall course during the first year of the apprenticeship.
I receive a lot of support from my training provider. any questions I have regarding work has been answered and understanding is always checked.
I have received a lot of support from my employer and have found Sam and Sarah in the office very helpful throughout the whole of the first year.
I find that my salary does meet my costs and the bonus at the end of the year is very generous. as this is my first job I am happy to be earning some money and starting my career at network rail.
the facilities at HMS Collingwood are very good and once you've finished work you can easily find things to do such as playing pool or watching telly in the hub and also going to the gym or using the sports facilities.
Yes
because I have thoroughly enjoyed it and think its a very good set up for the second and third year. the ILM course is also very good as it is preparing you for a team leader role later on in your career.
make the most of the opportunity and try your best as you will get out of it what you put in and its only 10 months of your life living away which goes really quick.
